I have been asked by a non archivist friend if ;
1. there are guidelines for Local Government re using offical file systems to store current records they are generating (I seem to recall the PRO were doing something but I may be mis-remebering
2. Are there any legal requirements to maintain offical files or are indivdual's unoffical filing systems (which may be forgotten about when the indivdual leaves) acceptable
3. guidelines as to what to do about storing key records in electornic format that are again generated by a Local Goverment Dept.
4. Specifically the query relates to London Boroughs, I don't know if that makes a difference
As I am in charge of an archive predominantly comprising Public Records i can't really answer the queries . can any one help point me to relevant legislation/publised guidelines/web sites
