Yes, Rita Freedman has been suspended. It's not true, however, that
councillors or officers had started negotiating with York University to
move the City Archives to the planned new Borthwick Institute building on
the University campus without bothering to tell her.
All that has happened is that the City of York Council and the University
of York have agreed to talk, and have exchanged an exploratory email and a
letter, which Rita saw before she took the action which led to her
suspension. Obviously, I cannot divulge details of this messy situation.
May I inform emailers who do not know, the Borthwick Institute has a 4.4
million pound bid currently with HLF for its new building.
I'm on holiday from, well, now actually, but my home email is given in my
