As a participant of the above conference at Aarhus University in May 98
who benefitted from the event in many ways I would like to mention to the
archaeometallurgical community the appearance of the conference
proceedings.
Although the volume focusses mainly on prehistoric and early settlement
development, agricultural production and animal husbandry with a bias
towards Northern Europe it also holds a few fine papers on ancient iron
production in the context on non-agricultural settlement-related
activities. The conference volume is not a specialist archaeometallurgical
publication but rather a landmark in landscape archaeology, but it is in
fact the integrated landscape approach that makes it particularly valuable
to the archaeometallurgist.
The book is distributed by Aarhus University Press and will no doubt crop
up in a book store near you soon.
