Can't help with the reference, but can confirm that that is what was taught
in our metallurgy lecture some twenty years ago at the mining academy in
Clausthal: Not as an odd piece of oldfashioned metallurgy, but as an
illustration that charcoal is much cleaner in iron smelting than coke
(sulphur, phosphoros), and if you have the land and land recultivating
regulations anyway, you may happily use the eukalyptus you are growing for
this.
