If you use the Nahant Gabbro from the bottommost part of the bottom sill (it
should be about 8.5 m thick and be 1 of 6 sills) on Calf Island in Boston Harbor,
it will be running about 40% olivine. This rock will handle temperatures up to
1800 degrees C. before it starts to soften badly. The rock should be heat treated
to drive off water before being used in a furnace. ---Jay
