You cannot melt limestone or dolomite because they decompose before they
melt. The melting point of the resultant lime is 2570 deg C. It sublimes at
2850 deg C. I believe the melting point of burned dolomite is well above
1750 deg C. They are of course very reactive and dissolve fairly readily in
an iron silicate slag displacing the iron. Dolomite refractories only work
in contact with slag when the slag is high in lime.
Gabbro is, I believe, variable and contains mixed silicates of calcium,
magnesium, aluminium and iron. The melting point will be variable but will
be much lower than those nearly pure oxides.
