Dear list
Can anybody help me with a quest for published examples of:
1. Romano-British wheel thrown crucibles. I'm aware of the ones
from Dave Z's excavations at Caerleon, but would like to know of
others, particularly from 4th century contexts.
2. "Hearth bases" - there is a recently published example from
Frocester, which is a fired clay "dish", around 200mm in diameter,
with a concave upper, vitrified, surface, with Cu-alloy blebs, and
steep/overhanging outer edge. Does anyone have any additional
examples of these, or analyses of residues from them? Does
anyone know of one found in-situ? (Again, a late Roman age would
be most relevant...).
Thanks in anticipation...
Tim
