There is, of course, the copper dead sea scrolls, a plate of a sort....we have been looking at Greek copper plaques of the 7th century BC inscribed with a very early form of the Greek language, so early in fact that we think this is the earliest example of the Greek text on copper so far known as it has Phoenician and perhaps Cycladic associations. One such plaque was condemned as a forgery in Stuttgart, but metallographic examination, organic remains and corrosion features leave no doubt that the copper plaques are authentic, and hammered from relatively pure copper into a plate about 23cm x 12cm in size. Later, such inscribed copper plaques were not uncommon in Greek shrines or temples, although this may not have been the purpose of the copper plaque that we are working on

that would refer to the use of metal plates as a means
to writing records on in the Old World?
