Dear Ineke,
a good start might be:
G. Gamer (1969)
Kaiserliche Bronzestatuen aus den Kastellen und Legionslagern an
Rhein- und Donaugrenze des Roemischen Imperiums.
Giessen: Gahmig Druck
there is also a related article in
Germania 46, 1968, 53ff.
Stylistic evidence suggests that these statues were cast in provincial
workshops rather than in a central imperial manufactory. Studies on
casting techniques of bronze statues were conducted on finds from the
Adolescent of Magdalensberg (Griechische und Roemische Statuetten und
Grossbronzen. Proceedings of the 5th Int. Congress on Ancient Bronzes,
Vienna 21.-25.4.1986 - KHM Wien) to finds from Mahdia, Tunisia (RLM Bonn -
Hellenkemper Salies ed. 1994). The latter publication includes interesting
illustrations.
Regards, Irene
