Ingo!
I very well recognize the high level of melting/vitrification of the goods. How about the the look of the fragments at full-scale? Do they show hard-vitrified outer surfaces and less exposed more clay-like inner surfaces?
How do the inner surfaces look in general - any larger shapes or imprints that could be interpreted as imprints of any kind of (specified or unspecified) objects?
What about the thickness of the goods? According to my own experience, it´s usually very uneven but keeps mainly within the range of 2 mm´s (uncommon) and 20 mm´s.
At the latest dig in the town of Sigtuna (1999-2000) we often found clay-sherds from padlock-soldering among slags and waste from forging-activities (11th-12th and possibly 13th c). Seems like padlock manufacture was a very important part in the blacksmith´s production at these times.

(Is there a common problem with this list, that sometimes answers seem to randomly get posted to the previous speaker´s privat mail-adress, instead of going back to the list? Do anyone recognize this?)
