Dear Mr. De Ryck,
Currently, I am excavating 1st mill. BCE levels at Tell es-Safi/Gath
(located in central Israel) and we do not have substantial amounts metal
finds. I thus suspect that at this stage I cannot be of much help to you
...sorry!
Good luck with your research,
Aren Maeir

Subject: Study of Near Eastern Metals
> My name is Ivan De Ryck. I am a PhD student at the chemistry department of
> the University of Antwerp (Belgium). My promoter is Dr. A. Adriaens. The
aim
> of my doctoral thesis is to study metals (especially bronze, copper,
> copper-arsenic) and related artefacts (crucible sherds, metal slag) from a
> compositional and microstructural point of view in order to obtain
> information on the use of metals (metal technology) during the 4th to 3rd
> millennium B.C. in Syria or even a broader area (the Near East).
>
> At the moment I am studying the metals that have been excavated at Tell
> Beydar (located at the Habur triangle approximately 35 km to the North of
> the modern city Hassake). This study is in cooperation with prof. Dr. K.
Van
> Lerberghe from the K.U. Leuven (Department of Eastern Studies). To expand
my
> investigation I would be interested in the analysis of metallurgical
objects
> from other excavations in the Near East. Therefore I would like to
> collaborate with archaeologists and researchers working in this region. By
> collaboration I mean such endeavors as providing samples, exchanging data,
> or giving advice. Of course this also means a full input on my part
> (exchange of data, articles, publications etc.). I would appreciate it
> highly if you would consider this proposal and share with me me your
> opinion.
>
> Many thanks in advance. I look forward to hearing from you,
