Other than cannon and shot what are these places producing? Darby is casting
all sorts of things, but he is a special case. My impression for the US is that
most of our castings are produced at the furnace. Is the same true for Britain?
Or are most firebacks, kettles, etc being made at foundries? Let me know
when/where your article will appear.
I must say that you are a veritable font of information. I just got a number of
books including:
Fairbairn 1865- Iron: Its History, Properties and Processes of Manufacture.
Bell 1884-Principles of the Manufacture of Iron and Steel,
An 1831 pamphlet on the Manufacture of Iron (M. Needham)
Nicholls' 1858- Forest of Dean
Nicholls' 1866-Iron Making in the Olden Times
Gruner & Lan 1862- État Présent de la Métallurgie du Fer in Angleterre.
Truran 1855/1862- The Iron Manufacture of Great Britain Theoretically and
Practically Considered,
Bauerman 1890- A Treatise on the Metallurgy of Iron
Hassenfratz, J. H. 1812- La Sidérotechnie, ou L'Art de Traiter les
Minérais de Fer
Anything of interest?
