POSTDOCTORAL POSITION AT
UNIVERSITY COLLEGE DUBLIN, IRELAND
Applications are invited for a 1 year and 9 months postdoctoral
position funded by Enterprise Ireland to conduct research on
statistical properties of acceptance criteria for laboratory assays in
the pharmaceutical industry. The object of the research is to
assess the rate of 'false positive' and 'false negative' decisions
regarding assay validation under a variety of conditions.
Optimisation of the assay acceptance criteria is the ultimate goal.
The work will be conducted in close co-operation with the leading
Irish pharmaceutical company Elan Corporation plc.
The research will be directed by Dr. Adrian Dunne in the
Department of Statistics, University College Dublin.
STATISTICAL EXPERIENCE & JOB DESCRIPTION
The successful applicant will have a Ph.D. degree in statistics.
Prior knowledge of pharmaceutical statistics is not necessary, in
fact this position offers a good opportunity to gain some experience
in this area. He/she will also be given the opportunity to participate
in the teaching of statistics at University College Dublin.

The Department of Statistics at University College Dublin is a
vibrant department with research activity in many diverse areas of
applied and theoretical statistics including: reliability theory,
biostatistics, medical statistics, pharmaceutical statistics,
experimental design (with applications in veterinary medicine,
agriculture and ecology), official statistics, actuarial statistics,
statistical education and time series. The department runs
undergraduate degree programmes in statistics and actuarial
studies as well as a taught M.Sc./M.A. degree programme.
FUNDING
The salary for this position is IR£21,000 per annum.
The starting date is 1st October 2000.
