Research in Focus are a consumer market research and data analysis company
based at Winkfield, near Ascot in Berkshire UK. For more information see
our web site at www.focus-group.co.uk.
We have a vacancy for a statistician/econometrician who has up to two years
post-graduation work experience to help us analyse customer transaction
level data on behalf of our client, one of the UK's largest retail groups,
using the most up-to-date statistical analysis and data mining software
from the SAS Institute.
Analyses to be conducted will include the setting up of test versus control
experiments and the analysis of their results; customer segmentation;
factor analysis; data mining; customer scoring; logistic and neural
response probability modelling and the opportunity to experiment with the
application of genetic algorithms and other advanced methods.
A temporary post earning 15 GBP/hour is available immediately with the
possibility for the position to become permanent later in the year. The
temporary post will be for 8 weeks in the first instance.
Suitable candidates will have a good statistics degree (2.i or better) and
possibly also a post-graduate qualification (not essential). Alternatively
a good degree in Mathematics, OR, Economics, Econometrics, Biology or other
similar discipline where a substantial statistical content has formed part
of the course would also be suitable.
Knowledge of the analysis of retail and/or customer level data would be a
distinct advantage but a thorough knowledge of the base SAS statistical
analysis system is essential for the role. Training in more advanced data
mining and analysis methods using SAS will however be made available for
the selected candidate.
This is an excellent opportunity in applied statistical analysis which has
arisen as result of the generic growth of Research in Focus and the growth
in the widespread availability of customer level transaction data.
