Dear reader,
I was asked to inform the list on the following. IPSoM (Institute of
Political Sociology and Methodology, KUBrussel) is looking for candidates for
a PhD in the Social Sciences, specialising in Social Science Methodology.
Subject: The treatment of missing data (panel attrition) in longitudinal and
comparative panel studies.
Abstract: (Comparative) Panel studies, such as the Belgian National Election
study (1991-1995-1999), suffer from panel attrition. The estimation of change
and continuity thus becomes problematic. The project aims to develop
solutions for these problems.
Candidates need to have at least two distinctions in their undergraduate and
graduate studies (including Postgraduate programmes). Equivalent academic
achievement is necessary for candidates outside the Belgian system. A
profound knowledge of social statistics is required.
The successful candidate will be offered a 'grant' from the K.U.Brussels
research council for a maximum period of four years. With little or no
post-graduate research experience within a university, the grant is between
51,000 BFR/month and 56,000 BFR (or between 1,264 and 1,388 Euro). This is
tax exempt, and depending on the academic seniority the grant can be higher.
Applications including a C.V. should be send before 30 March 2000 to:
