MSİ ExcelTM for Statistics? What you can and cannot do
Dates: 6-8 March Duration: 2½ days Price: £512.50
Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet program which has many built-in
statistical facilities. Some of these features appear to do the same job
as specialised statistics packages. This course is intended for Excel
users who need to do statistics. The course will highlight those
statistical tasks for which Excel can be useful. It will also indicate
dangers and pitfalls which can arise and illustrate those situations where
it would be better to turn to a statistics package. Topics to be covered
include data management; data summaries and descriptive statistics;
probability distributions and significance tests; cross-tabulations;
correlation and regression analysis; further data analysis; simulation.
Scientific Data Management using MSİ AccessTM
Dates: (1) 9-10 March Duration: 2 days Price: £410
Research generates data of different levels of complexity for which a
spreadsheet has limitations if used as a data management tool. Often a
relational database system is the answer. The course will cover database
design, data entry and validation. We will also look at ways of
transferring subsets of the data to Excel or to a statistics package for
analysis. Implicit in this is the use of queries. During the course we
will use example databases based on survey, monitoring and experimental data.
There are many training courses and books available which deal with Access
for business applications - in contrast, this course will focus on
scientific work.
