Hi,
Before anyone else decides to add to the recent discussion of the
"unsubscribe" messages I'd like to make a couple of things clear.
However, before even doing this, can I impress on all members that they
should CHECK THE ALLSTAT INTRODUCTION OR FAQ BEFORE SENDING A MESSAGE TO
ALLSTAT to see if the message is in the correct form for Allstat and
whether Allstat is the correct forum for the message. Note that you can
obtain copies of these documents from the Allstat webpage
http://www.stats.gla.ac.uk/allstat/
or by sending a message containing the two lines
send allstat introduction
send allstat faq
to
[log in to unmask]
So, the two points:
Firstly, Allstat is not a discussion list. If someone sends a message
to Allstat that you wish to comment on then you should write to the
poster of the original message and not to the list. Therefore please
make sure that [log in to unmask] is not in the "To:" or "Cc:"
fields when replying to Allstat messages.
The second point is about the recent messages on Allstat requesting to
leave the list. Normally, such messages do not appear on Allstat
because most members leave the list in the correct manner. The recent
outbreak of such messages were caused by some members copying the
mistakes of others. This problem happens sporadically and when more
than one "leave allstat" style message appears on Allstat in quick
succession, I write to the list about it. By the way, note that every
Allstat e-mail you receive will have the leaving instructions in its
header.
I hope this clears things up for people. Remember that if you are ever
unsure about something to do with Allstat, you should read the
Introduction and FAQ and, if they don't resolve things, then contact me
at
[log in to unmask]
Cheers,
John
