OVERVIEW OF THE PACKAGE
DSTPLAN performs sample size and related calculations needed to plan
studies. Parameters of a test include those necessary to describe the
distributions under the null and alternative hypotheses, sample sizes,
significance levels, and power. Given values for all but one
parameter, DSTPLAN will calculate the value of that one parameter.
DSTPLAN calculates values for 26 types of studies.
WHAT'S NEW IN VERSION 4.2
DSTPLAN version 4.2 is the latest version of STPLAN and supersedes all
STPLAN versions. The name change from STPLAN to DSTPLAN indicates the
fact that in this version all calculations are performed in double
precision.
IN VERSION 4.2 MANY BUGS HAVE BEEN FIXED AND THE SOURCE CODE HAS BEEN
CLEANED UP EXTENSIVELY. Since all calculations are now performed in
double precision, the allowed ranges of parameter values have been
expanded. Parameter range checking in the routines has also been
improved to produce more meaningful error messages.
The documentation has been revised and some errors have been
corrected. The examples in the documentation have been recalculated
using the new code and in some cases they have been changed the more
closely to follow the examples proposed in the text.

A document detailing methods used in DSTPLAN is also available from
the same source. It has not yet been updated to reflect the bug fixes
in the new version.
