Animal Health Trust
Epidemiology Unit
STATISTICIAN
We require a statistician to join our team to work on an important study of
risk factors for horses dying on British Racecourses over the period
1990-1999. The study is a key component of our funded research programme on
death and injury, particularly fractures in horses. The initial phase of
data gathering has resulted in readily accessible SAS datasets. Results from
a detailed analysis of these unique and substantial data, which will be
published in refereed scientific journals, should have a significant impact
on welfare of racehorses.
The candidate should have at least an MSc in Medical Statistics or
equivalent or post-graduate experience. S/he should be familiar with SAS
software, and have at least some experience of using multiple regression,
logistic regression and other non-linear models. The post would suit an
ambitious individual who is keen to develop a career in biomedical research.
The post is in the Epidemiology Unit at the Animal Health Trust and the post
holder will work closely alongside the other veterinary epidemiologists,
veterinarians, statisticians and mathematicians in the unit. The Animal
Health Trust is a charity and a veterinary research institute, working on
diseases of horses, dogs and cats, employing over 180 staff. It is
internationally recognised as a centre of scientific excellence.
Salary in the range £16,286-£21,597 on the University research scale 1A,
dependent upon experience. The position is available with immediate effect
for 9-12 months in the first instance. The closing date for applications is
20th June 2000.
Initial enquiries and further information from Dr James Wood, Head of
Epidemiology.
