Dear all,
Using figures collected from selected organisations who come into contact
with individuals presenting with a certain diagnosis, I would like to obtain
an estimate of the number of these individuals in the whole of the
population including those not reporting for treatment. In addition, this
certain diagnosis is likely to cause individuals to attempt to remain
anonymous, and possibly refuse to seek diagnosis.
It has been suggested that I use the technique of capture-recapture to
achieve this
Could anyone provide me with an explanation of this procedure, suggest
whether it would work under these circumstances, and explain any assumptions
that will need to be made / or any conditions that will need to be met?
(Alternatively if you could point me at some suitable literature I would be
grateful)
Many thanks
Claire.
