University of Oxford

POST ONE: RESEARCH FELLOW IN SYSTEMATIC REVIEWS

SALARY SCALE: Research Grade 2 £23,256 - £30,967

A unique opportunity exists for a three year research fellowship in the
application and development of systematic reviews within healthcare. Whilst
based within an academic department the position is equally divided between
undertaking systematic reviews for a major pharmaceutical company, and
undertaking new methodological work relating to the systematic review
process.

The successful applicant is likely to be an experienced health service
researcher with postgraduate qualifications (MSc or higher) in medical
statistics, epidemiology or another evaluative branch of health sciences
research. The applicant will have excellent critical review and
quantitative skills and experience of the systematic review process. In
addition, the successful applicant will have an interest in methodological
research related to systematic reviews, preferably backed up by a
publication/presentation record.

We are looking for someone who is committed and able to produce
consistently high quality work within deadlines. Personal qualities should
include well-developed organisational abilities and good communication
skills, both oral and written.

POST TWO: RESEARCH FELLOW IN MEDICAL STATISTICS

SALARY SCALE: Research Grade 1(A) currently £16,775 - £25,213

A two-year post is available for a medical statistician to work on an MRC
funded project addressing methodological issues in meta-analysis of RCTs
with continuous outcome data.

The work will include empirical research based on systematic reviews in the
Cochrane Library, methodological research relating to statistical methods
and collaborative research in conjunction with researchers working on
systematic reviews, with the aim of developing relevant practical
guidelines for the analysis, interpretation and presentation of systematic
reviews in these areas.

Applicants should have a post-graduate qualification in statistics with
experience working in a medical area. Previous methodological work and
experience in meta-analysis are desirable.

FOR FURTHER DETAILS OF BOTH POSITIONS

An application form and job description (quote reference number
HB/00/058/SR for post one, and HB/00/059/RF for post two) are available
from the personnel administrator (email [log in to unmask], tel:
+44-(0)-1865-220558).  Closing date for applications is 24th November;
interviews will take place on 7th and 8th December 2000.
