PhD Studentship in modelling the wind and wave climate
Applications are invited for a 3-year PhD studentship, starting in October
2000 or as soon as possible thereafter, in the statistical modelling
of the offshore wind and wave climate. The objective is to further
develop understanding of the relationship between wind, wave and other
metocean variables, in order to assist the offshore and maritime
communities in design and safety issues. Of particular interest is
the further development and application of methodology, including
graphical techniques, to predict extremes of the metocean climate.
The project would be jointly supervised in the above two departments
of the University.
It is anticipated that the studentship would cover tuition fees,
together with an maintenance grant, at or possibly above EPSRC rates,
to cover general living expenses. There would also be opportunity for
paid demonstrating and other work, possibly including consultancy.
