FIFTH ANNOUNCEMENT REMINDER CALL FOR REGISTRATION
THE STATISTICS OF DIRECTIONS, SHAPES AND IMAGES
Leeds, UK 3 July - 5 July, 2000
19th L.A.S.R. (Leeds Annual Statistics Research) Workshop organized by
the Department of Statistics and CoMIR, University of Leeds, UK and
the Indian Statistical Institute, Calcutta, India,
with financial support from the London Mathematical Society
This year's workshop will celebrate the 65th birthday of Kanti Mardia
who was the founder of the LASR Workshops and has been the motivating
force behind the event for the last 25 years. The themes this year
reflect Kanti's research interests and represent important areas in
current statistical research.
The workshop will comprises more than 25 talks and posters covering a
wide variety of topics from the three main themes:
Spherical Regression Models, Homogeneity Of Angular Distributions,
Skew Data Modelling, Change-point Problems for Directional Data,
Landmark Matching, 3d Shape Change, Extreme shape analysis,
Fisher Faces, Scale-space methods, Partitioned Iterative Functions,
Impulsive Images, Models of Appearance, Motion Estimation,
M-estimates in Computer Vision, Multivariate Visual Data
with many talks addressing practical issues:
Face Range Data, Detection of Glaucomatous Change,
Variation in Tooth Shape, Human Orientation Sensitivity,
Longitudinal Assessment of Facial Impairment, Face Verification.

* FUNDING FOR UK-BASED RESEARCH STUDENTS
A grant from the London Mathematical Society means that we can offer a
limited number of subsidised places to UK-based research students.
(This is in addition to the student reductions below.) Contact Robert
Aykroyd for further details. Please note that an early application will
enhance chances of success.
DURATION: Monday mid-morning (registration) to Wednesday late afternoon.
REGISTRATION FEE (includes refreshments and lunches)
Full 180 pounds sterling - students 150 pounds*.
CONFERENCE DINNER (at the Queen's Hotel):
4th July, 20 pounds sterling payable with registration fee.
ACCOMMODATION:
Fairbairn House has a limited number of standard and ensuite (with
shower) rooms available which will be filled on a first come, first
served basis. Further standard room accommodation is available nearby
on the University campus.
Standard room, 25 pounds sterling (students 20 pounds*) per night,
Ensuite room, 35 pounds sterling per night.
Prices include full English breakfast.
