SENIOR STATISTICIAN
The MRC Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) is a newly formed research Unit of the
Medical Research Council. It is responsible for the co-ordination of
national and international trials primarily in cancer and HIV. The Division
Without Portfolio (DWP) has been set up to undertake trials in other disease
areas where there is no existing trials infrastructure or tradition of
trials, or where there are challenging methodological issues.
A collaboration has been established between the DWP and the Arthritis
Research Campaign and British Society for Rheumatology to support clinical
trials in arthritis and rheumatism. We are seeking to appoint a Senior
Statistician to work with the Head of the DWP to develop this area. The
post-holder will assist in the development of research proposals and in
undertaking studies from the initial concept through to the final report.
We are looking for an individual with a postgraduate qualification in
statistics, preferably a PhD, and a minimum of five years experience in
clinical trials or epidemiology. He/she should have a strong interest in
working in close collaboration with clinicians and other scientists; good
communication skills are therefore essential. The post-holder would also be
expected to have an active interest in developing methodological research
either on their own or in collaboration with other members of the Unit.
The appointment, which will be for 5 years, will be in MRC band 2 with a
salary in the range of £29,362 - £40,000, depending on qualifications and
experience, plus Location Allowance of £2,400. It is anticipated that an
honorary appointment will be made in the appropriate department of the Royal
Free and University College London Medical School and with the Arthritis
Research Campaign in the University of Manchester.
Interested applicants may contact Professor Andrew Nunn (0207 670 4702,
email [log in to unmask]) for further information. Completed applications,
consisting of a CV, a list of publications and the names of two referees
should be sent to the Personnel Officer, MRC Clinical Trials Unit, 222
Euston Road, London NW1 2DA. The closing date for applications is 10th May
2000.
