Hi all,
Can anyone convince me that any particular notation for the number of
elements in a set S is "standard" (in statistics)?
e.g. Kemeny, Snell and Thompson (1966) "Introduction to finite mathematics"
(2nd ed) Prentice-Hall, suggest n(S).
I sometimes use #S or dim(S), but I don't like the former (unfamiliar) or
the latter (more like the dimension of a vector space).
Thanks, Patrick.
