Estimating the underlying change in unemployment in the UK

Synopsis: A time series model is used to estimate the underlying
change in unemployment as measured by the labour force survey.
There is a considerable gain in accuracy if information on
claimant counts is taken into account.

Time and place: The meeting starts at 5pm on Wednesday 12
April 2000, with tea at 4.30pm. The meeting takes place at
the Royal Statistical Society, 12 Errol Street, London EC1
(nearest underground stations are Old Street, Moorgate and
Barbican).
