ANNOUNCING:
DISEASE MAPPING AND RISK ASSESSMENT FOR PUBLICH HEALTH
A two day course
This course is designed to provide an introduction to the area of disease
mapping and risk assessment in applications to Public Health and Epidemiology.
The course consists of sessions dealing with:
* Basic concepts of disease mapping
* Ecological Analysis
* Disease cluster assessment
* Risk assessment around health hazards
The course will include theoretical input, but also practical elements and
participants will be involved in a hands on tutorial with the DISMAPWIN
mapping package, in addition, a review and demonstration of GIS tools for
disease mapping will be provided. Participants will also take part in a
Case Study Scenario.
The course is being presented by Dr Andrew B. Lawson (university of
Aberdeen) and Dr Fiona L. R. Williams (University of Dundee). Dr Lawson is
a World Health Organisation (WHO) advisor on Disease Mapping and recently
organised with the WHO an International workshop on this topic which has
led to an edited volume 'Disease Mapping and Risk Assessment for Public
Health' (available with the course). Dr Williams has extensive experience
within environmental epidemiology, and in particular, the analysis of
putative health hazards.
This course, in different forms, has been successfully run previously in
University of Aberdeen, Catholic University, Leuven, Belgium and at the
ISCB annual conference Dundee 1998. This event has been updated in light
of experience and feedback from the previous sessions.
The course is intended for epidemiologists and public health workers who
need to analyse geographical disease incidence. In addition, the course may
be of interest to statisticians or geographers and planners who deal with
spatial disease data. Some statistical/epidemiological background would be
beneficial but is not essential.
Date: 21st-22nd June 2000
Venue: King's College, Old Aberdeen
University of Aberdeen

Accommodation will be available on campus, in King's Hall.
Included within the cost of the course is a discounted copy of the
