Postdoctoral Position in Mathematical/Computational Genetics
A postdoctoral position is available in Bruce Rannala's research group
(www.rannala.org) in the Department of Medical Genetics
(www.medgen.med.ualberta.ca) at the University of Alberta. Potential
research topics include applications of coalescent theory, mathematical
models of complex genetic diseases, linkage disequilibrium gene mapping,
and statistical aspects of phylogenetic inference. The minimum period of
appointment is two years. Candidates should possess a Ph.D. in biology,
mathematics, or statistics. Experience programming in C, C++, or Java, is
desirable. The start date is negotiable. Minimum salary: $29,000 per annum
(actual salary will depend on experience). The Medical Genetics Department
at U of A was founded in 1998. Excellent facilities for computational and
experimental work are available in our newly renovated space. The
University of Alberta (www.ualberta.ca) consistently ranks among the top 5
research universities in Canada. The city of Edmonton (pop. 600,000) is an
inexpensive, relaxed place to live, with more green space than any other
city in Canada (www.gov.edmonton.ab.ca). Jasper National Park
(www.jasper.ca) in the Canadian Rockies is only three hours drive west. To
