If your local library has Collected Papers of R.A.Fisher, Vol.5,
(Edited by J.H.Bennett) you can read Papers number 274, 275, 276.
Taking his motives aside, Paper 274 (Cigarettes, Cancer and Statistics)
is a masterful and highly readable exposition of statistics, which
should be a required reading for students of statistics and
epidemiology.
