"Pairwise Balanced Designs"
I shall discuss block designs in which there are two sizes of blocks. I
will assume that the sub-design on each size of block has just two
concurrences, and that overall the design has pairwise balance. I shall
show that, with finitely many exceptions, a version of Fisher's inequality
holds.

"Diagram Geometries, Parabolic Systems and Finite (Simple) Groups"
I will introduce the most important concepts of diagram geometries and
parabolic systems, and illustrate them by means of easy examples. This
will give us some idea why geometries and parabolic systems play such an
important role in group theory; especially in the context of the
classification of finite simple groups. Finally, I will report on some new
characterisations of geometries for the sporadic simple group Fi_22, on
which I am presently working with A. Ivanov.
