LECTURER IN MEDICAL STATISTICS, GHANA VITAMIN A & MATERNAL MORTALITY TRIAL
We have acquired research funding to conduct a large-scale, randomised, double-blind placebo controlled trial in collaboration with the Kintampo Health Research Centre, Ministry of Health, Ghana to evaluate whether weekly vitamin A supplements can reduce maternal mortality. Pregnancy accounts for nearly 600,000 deaths of women each year, the vast majority of which are in developing countries. We are seeking a statistician to join the study team.
The ideal candidate will have a postgraduate qualification in statistics, considerable practical experience of data analysis and database packages, familiarity with epidemiology, an interest in health in developing countries, and excellent communication and organisational skills.
The appointment, which is available immediately, will be for 3 years and will be based in Ghana. In accordance with School policy, there will then be a performance review with the possibility of an 18-month extension. Further extensions will be dependent on funding for future projects. The starting salary will be in the range of £21,343 to £26,906 inclusive.
