POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Position: PhD student
Topic: Phenomenological investigation of the human experience of wood in the
interior environment
The project: This research project seeks to uncover the cultural and individual
dimensions to the experience and meaning of wood in the interior environment.
Phenomenological data collection methods, structural equation modeling and
multivariate analysis will be used to understand individually and jointly, the
cognitive attributes, emotional constructs, physical attributes and symbolic
values. Home-based versus work-based environments may also be contrasted. The
objective is to determine how wood products, used for interior and environmental
design, can impact both physical and emotional wellbeing.
The position: The position is based at the University of Canterbury in
Christchurch, New Zealand. The University is situated in the largest city in
the South Island of New Zealand - the Garden City of Christchurch. It is a city
with excellent facilities and a relaxed lifestyle. Christchurch is near the sea
and the Southern Alps, where some of New Zealands finest ski-fields are found.
The quality of life is high and good housing is available at a reasonable cost.
The position will also involve significant interaction with Forest Research (New
Zealand Forest Research Institute), who are an internationally recognised
supplier of research and technological development to the forestry and forest
products sector. The position will attract a competitive research scholarship.
Funding is available for three years.
Your qualifications: You should hold a Bachelors degree with outstanding grades
or a Masters degree in the fields of statistics, psychology or mathematics.
Skills in structural equation modeling and multivariate analysis are required.
You will also be required to satisfy the University of Canterbury's requirements
for English language competence.
