Here is an opportunity to help develop links in Europe amongst
statisticians and users of statistical methods for business and industrial
applications.
The European Network for Business and Industrial Statistics (ENBIS) is due
to be launched this year in Amsterdam, on 11th December. A small working
committee has been handling the preparations. The UK members of the
committee are Prof Henry Wynn (Warwick University) and John Shade (Good
Decision Ltd). We hope to see a good mix of statistical practitioners at
the launch event - so please tell your relevant clients about ENBIS as well
as considering it for yourself. Those involved in major quality
initiatives such as Six Sigma/Black Belt should find this event attractive
for example.
Prof Soren Bisgaard will open the event, and Prof George Box and others
will make presentations. Working groups will be formed to draw out and
develop ideas for the future of ENBIS. Our aim is to facilitate networking
amongst statistical practitioners and to stimulate the application of
statistical methods in European business and industry. The fee for the
conference is 100 Euros, inclusive of lunch and refreshments.
See www.ibisuva.nl/ENBIS for more details about the conference, and about
ENBIS.
The web site also has details of a short course on the design of
experiments which will be run after the conference, in Eindhoven 12-14
December. This will raise funds for the initial costs of ENBIS. Again,
please draw this to the attention of your clients. It is a superb
introduction to factorial experimentation. It will be delivered by Soren
Bisgaard, and is a great opportunity for practitioners (and also
statisticians who may gain insight into what to include and how to present
it in such courses).
We hope that ENBIS will be of interest to many members of ALLSTAT and their
clients, and that we may look forward to your joining the network.
