Hi,
I have been asked to forward this to the list. It is an altered version of
the advert that I forwarded on Monday, as this earlier one was the
within-company version and so lacked what is apparently vital information.
Regards,
John

Statistician : Drug Discovery/Informatics Stevenage
1 year Temporary role
Glaxo Wellcome is one of the world's leading healthcare organisations with a
portfolio of products containing some of the most widely used and innovative
medicines on the market. Statisticians have influential roles across the
company in drug discovery, clinical development, process and product
development, manufacturing and supply. We have an exciting opportunity for
an applied statistician to participate in our drug discovery team and to
work on a pharmacogenomics project. The project involves trying to identify
genes which are diagnostic of the pharmacological profile of candidate
compounds.
The work will be theoretically challenging, and hence you will need with
both a sound theoretical knowledge and a creative flair for applying that
knowledge. You will be analysing large multivariate data sets, and hence
some knowledge of multivariate statistical techniques will be required. You
should have a good honours degree or post-graduate qualification in
statistics and some expertise of programming in a major statistical package
such as SAS. An ability to program in a computer language such as Perl,
Java or C++ would be helpful, but not essential. You will be using a wide
variety of statistical methodologies and you will be expected to
enthusiastically promote the application of chosen methods to maximise the
benefit to the business.
You will have the desire and ability to broaden your knowledge to meet the
challenges of the role. Reporting to the Research Statistics manager you
will be expected to work well within a team of highly qualified statistics
professionals, and to have the communication skills required for interacting
successfully with specialist scientists in order to both understand their
needs and report your findings. Some experience in applying statistics in a
scientific environment would be helpful, although newly qualified
statisticians may apply.
This is an opportunity for a professional statistician who would like to
broaden their skills to meet the challenge of analysing the information
provided by the human genome.
