Applications are invited for a position in Biostatistics at the
Lecturer/Senior Lecturer level in the Department of Public Health and
Community Medicine. The appointee will lecture in introductory and more
advanced biostatistics to postgraduate students enrolled in public
health and clinical epidemiology degrees, and will provide advice to
postgraduate research students. There will also be the opportunity to
participate in the development of courses for flexible delivery as part
of a new national collaborative initiative to create a postgraduate
degree program for training biostatisticians.
The Department is part of the School of Population Health and Health
Services Research. The School and its affiliated centres employ 15
biostatisticians. The School has an active research program with about
50 PhD students, four of whom are doing research in biostatistical
methodology, enrolled through the Department or the NHMRC Clinical
Trials Centre. The School has a strong affiliation with the Institute
for International Health and NSW Cancer Council, close links with the
NSW Department of Health and other Government agencies, and is deeply
involved in collaborative research with many Departments in the
Faculty's clinical schools.
Applicants should have a higher degree in Biostatistics or another area
of Applied Statistics, with a demonstrated record of research and
publication in biostatistics. Other essential requirements are: a
demonstrated ability to teach applied statistics; excellent oral and
written communication skills; a demonstrated ability to interact
effectively with staff and students and work cooperatively in a teaching
and research environment. Preference may be given to applicants who are
able to contribute to one or more of the School's current research
areas. For appointment at Senior Lecturer level applicants should have
a substantial record of publications in high-quality journals and a
demonstrated ability to develop applied statistics courses.
The position is full-time continuing, subject to the completion of a
satisfactory probation period for new appointees. Membership of a
university approved superannuation scheme is a condition of employment

Remuneration package: $60,809 - $72,186 p.a. (which includes a base
salary Lecturer Level B $51,385 - $61,020 p.a., leave loading and up to
17% employer’s contribution to superannuation)
Remuneration package: $74,439 - $85,714 p.a. (which includes a base
salary Senior Lecturer Level C $62,946 - $72,582 p.a., leave loading and
up to 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation)

experience)
