BAYESIAN NONLINEAR MODELLING
(starting October 2000)
Applications are invited for a PhD studentship under the supervision of Dr David
Denison at the Department of Mathematics, Imperial College, London to start on
1/10/2000 or soon thereafter.
Nonlinear models are becoming increasingly common for data analysis in statistics,
computer science and electrical engineering. The project will bring tgoether the
ideas behind Bayesian learning and spatial data analysis to provide
statistical methods that can be used to model many physical processes such as wind, rain
or even pollution. Also there are many examples in medicine for which it is required,
most notably assessing disease risk over a region of interest.
Note that, along with the usual studentship bursary, there are funds available for travel
and for computing equipment.
Further details about the grant can be found at

Note that there is a postgraduate open day at Imperial College's Maths dept on 22
March at which I will be available to meet prospective students.
Also, note that only UK residents, or EU students who have studied an undergraduate
degree at a UK University, will be able to receive the full grant. Non-UK, European
Union nationals will only be entitled to have their tuition fees paid.
