SENIOR BIOSTATISTICIAN
Department of Medical Epidemiology
Karolinska Institutet
Stockholm, Sweden
The Department of Medical Epidemiology (http://www.mep.ki.se/) is a
multi-discipline research group at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm,
Sweden. The department is engaged in research covering a broad spectrum of
diseases and works extensively with national registers and large prospective
cohorts.
We currently have an opening for a senior biostatistician. The successful
applicant is expected to closely collaborate with epidemiologists and
clinicians and to take the lead on issues of design, analysis and reporting
of studies. While the primary role of the position is to provide statistical
support within the department, opportunities exist for independent research.
It is envisaged that the successful applicant will hold a doctoral degree in
statistics or related discipline and have several years' experience in the
provision of statistical advice and consultancy to health researchers. A
doctoral degree is not, however, a requirement and more weight will be given
to the level of experience in applied biostatistics. Knowledge of
epidemiology and experience with SAS is an advantage.
The Department of Medical Epidemiology presently employs 100 staff. The
current position will be filled in the department's Biostatistics Group. The
group led by Prof. Juni Palmgren comprises an additional 3 Ph.D. level
statisticians, 4 masters level statisticians, 3 IT professionals, and 3
programmers.
Further information is available from Dr. Fredrik Granath
([log in to unmask], tel +46 8 728 6194). The trade union (SACO)
representative is Professor Anders Ekbom ([log in to unmask], tel +46 8

Applications (in Swedish or English), accompanied by a CV, should be
submitted in duplicate to Pirkko Tomisaho, Department of Medical
Epidemiology, Box 281, 171 77 Stockholm, Sweden. Applications should arrive
no later than 15 September 2000.
