PLEASE DO NOT SEND ANY MORE ALLSTAT-WIDE "THANK YOU" MESSAGES;

also,
PLEASE SEND REPLIES TO POSTER OF QUERY ONLY & NOT TO ALLSTAT

and
SEMINAR NOTICE POSTERS: PLEASE TRY TO SEND ONLY ONE SEMINAR NOTICE PER TERM
_________

Hi,

Various messages recently have been solely "thank you" messages concerning
responses to queries.

Sending such meassages to Allstat is not very effective as most of the list
will not have responded to the query.

Posters of queries are welcome to send a summary (which could of course include
a "thank you") of the responses they received to the list.

If, for whatever reason, a member is are not going to send a summary of
responses then they should not feel obliged to send a "thank you" to the whole
list; I'd be grateful if such a member, wishing to thank respondents to a query
he or she has sent to Allstat, e-mailed the respondents directly.

I realise these messages are well intentioned, and that this request may well
seem rather churlish and pernickety, but such messages unnecessarily increase
the volume of traffic on what is already a list with a great deal of traffic -
particularly as they encourage others to send such messages.
_________

Also, can I remind members that replies to queries sent to Allstat should be
sent direct to the poster of the query, rather than to the list.

Recently, a few members have been sending replies to the list - please remember
that Allstat is not a discussion list.
_________

Could posters of seminars please try to send only one seminar notice to Allstat
per term?

I realise some posters of such notices find this restrictive [perhaps
particularly those posting noticies of non-departmental seminars], but many such
posters do mange this and I'd be grateful if all could do this. Please note
that there are simply too many seminars that take place every week for them all
to advertised (let alone re-advertised) indivdually.

Also note that giving a web site containing information about your seminar
programme can be very useful - especially if not all the information about all
the seminars is available at the time of posting.
_________

More information about guidelines for this list are given in both
your Allstat Introduction and the FAQ. You can obtain copies of
these documents from the Allstat webpage
     http://www.stats.gla.ac.uk/allstat/
or by sending a message containing the two lines
     send allstat introduction
     send allstat faq
to
     [log in to unmask]

Finally, if you have any queries about these or any other Allstat matters, then
do e-mail
	[log in to unmask]
with them.

Cheers,

John
