POST 1: Research Leader in Statistics of Risk and Quality - as applied
to agricultural and environmental issues.
Permanent post with starting salary £26 000 - £ 33 000
BioSS wishes to develop its expertise in this important and high profile
area. Examples of current issues are:
* evaluating the performance of new crop varieties
* assessing biodiversity and other measures of environmental quality
* testing the safety of GM crops
* evaluating the risk of chemicals to human health
Applicants should have a PhD in statistics (or equivalent experience)
and a good record of research and publication. They should have proven
ability to collaborate with scientists from a wide range of disciplines
and experience of project management.
CLOSING DATE 2 MAY 2000
POST 2: Research Consultant in Veterinary Statistics and Epidemiology
5-year post with starting salary up to £22 000 (possibly higher for well
qualified candidate)
Statistician to collaborate with veterinary scientists, molecular
biologists and epidemiologists in sampling, evaluating and modelling
animal disease data. This will include a large international project
(funded by Wellcome Trust) to improve understanding of the epidemiology
of E. coli O157 infection in cattle and its transmission to humans.
Applicants should have an MSc or PhD in statistics (or equivalent
experience) and experience of collaborating with biological scientists.
