The following 3 positions have been advertised recently:
KING'S COLLEGE LONDON
INSTITUTE OF PSYCHIATRY
Social, Genetic and Developmental Psychiatry Research Centre
THREE new positions are available for researchers interested in working
towards teasing out the aetiology of complex psychiatric/behavioural
disorders in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment.
LECTURER IN STATISTICS (Statistical Genetics)
Applications are invited from statisticians who will have completed at
least two years' post doctoral experience. The appointee will be expected
to develop a programme of research relevant to common psychiatric disorders
as well as participating in Centre collaborative research. Much of the
Centre's current work in genetics concentrates on mapping genes involved in
behaviour and therefore involves analysis of linkage and association data
and applying methods for detecting quantitative trait loci. The Centre is
also engaged in a variety of projects based on twin and family data using
structural equation modelling and related approaches. Previous experience
in one or more of these areas would be valuable, but we are willing to
consider applications from general statisticians of proven merit who are
prepared to acquire the specific skills needed for the post. For this post
please quote the reference number 99/A33.
POST DOCTORAL RESEARCH WORKER IN STATISTICAL OR COMPUTATIONAL GENETICS
The successful candidate will acquire a broad understanding of statistical
or computational methods currently used in human genetic research, and
sufficient technical expertise to apply these methods to real data. The
post holder will be expected to specialise in an area of statistical or
computational genetics that is relevant to the SGDP Research Centre, such
as the analysis of multi-locus genotype data or DNA sequence data.
Applicants should have a higher degree in statistics or computing.
Previous experience in genetics is not essential, but an interest in
biological research would be important. Expertise in a range of operating
systems, programming languages and statistical packages would be desirable.
For this post please quote the reference number 99/R79. Starting salary
for this post in the range £18,420 pa to £26,613 pa inclusive of London
Allowance.
RESEARCH WORKER IN BEHAVIORAL GENETIC ANALYSIS
The successful candidate will be involved in quantitative genetic analyses
of psychiatric disorders and related traits. There will be opportunities
to acquire skills in twin analysis and/or gene mapping methods. Applicants
should have a degree in psychology, statistics or a related discipline.
Previous experience in genetics is not essential, but an interest in
quantitative research and a basic grounding in statistical methods is
important. Experience in a range of computer software and statistical
packages would be desirable. For this post please quote the reference
number 99/R80. Starting salary for this post in the range £18,420 pa to
£20,319 pa inclusive of London Allowance.
For further information please send a SAE quoting the appropriate reference
