HEALTH SERVICES RESEARCH COLLABORATION
Applications are invited for two Research Associates to join the
multidisciplinary MRC Health Services Research Collaboration (HSRC),
based in the Dept of Social Medicine, University of Bristol. The work
will be associated with the HSRC's Joint Replacement Programme, led by
Professor Paul Dieppe, and the Locomotor Disability Programme, led
by Professor Shah Ebrahim.
These will be 3-year MRC-funded posts, with salaries in MRC Band 4
(minimum £20,000), with the maximum equivalent to the top of the
University RA1A scale (£25,213). Starting salary will depend on
relevant qualifications and experience.
STATISTICIAN/EPIDEMIOLOGIST
Applicants should have a higher degree, preferably a PhD, in a relevant
area of epidemiology/statistics. Experience of analysis of
cross-sectional and cohort studies, including use of regression methods
are also required. The successful candidate will be expected to (a)
analyse and write up data from a large ONS survey, (b) work on two
longitudinal cohorts to explore determinants of locomotor disability,
(c) liaise with researchers connected with the programme and prepare

STATISTICIAN/HEALTH SERVICES RESEARCHER
A researcher is required to work jointly on both the above programmes.
Applicants should have a higher degree, preferably a PhD, in a relevant
area of statistics, and experience of Health Services Research and
clinical trials. The successful candidate will be expected to (a)
develop a database of trials of complex interventions, and to perform
stratified and meta-regression analyses (b) review publications of
n-of-1 trials and oversee n-of-1 trials in people with severe joint
disease, (c) liaise with researchers connected with the programme and
prepare scientific papers. Further details can be obtained from the MRC
