CTSU is one of the best known medical research units in the world.
Its work involves determining the causes of chronic diseases such
as cancer, heart attack and stroke, and the effects of treatments
for them.
An opportunity has arisen for a Programmer/Statistician to join the
team that is estimating the risk of lung cancer that arises from the
presence in the environment of the radioactive gas radon. The
results of this international study should be useful in formulating
appropriate policy to reduce the number of deaths from the
commonest fatal cancer in the developed world.
The successful candidate will work with Professor Sarah Darby and
will play a leading role in conducting the study, including the
organisation of the data, the development and running of statistical
analysis programs and writing reports.
Applicants should have a good degree in a numerate discipline and
have good programming skills. Knowledge of statistical packages
or a high level programming language would be an advantage, as
would a qualification in statistics or a postgraduate degree.
The appointment will be for two years in the first instance. Benefits
