Thanks to everyone who took the time to reply to my query. In the course of
investigating this problem I've seen some stunning graphics produced by the
data visualization community, using, in the main, unix programs (some of
which are free!). I didn't, however come across 'exactly' what I had in
mind when I posted the query. SInce I don't have the time to (a) find space
on a unix machine in our organisation and (b) climb a steep learning curve,
I've opted for represnting my clusters with a 'blob' to represent the
centroid and error-bar type lines to represent the dispersion of the data
along the XYZ axes...it doesn't look too bad!. Here are a summary of some
of the replies I had:
1 . Could you make up the individual 'boxes,' then paste them into a 3-D
graphics package? Perhaps you could build it in Vertus Walk-Through.
2. R and Xgobi, available from - http://lib.stat.cmu.edu/R/CRAN/
3. X-Lisp Stat.... creates linked plots (highlight a cluster in one graph
and they are highlighted in the other plots you have open) and it lets you
animate the plots...
3. You could look at a package called vtk, found at http://www.kitware.com.
This is basically free visualization s'ware, but has an associated
'learning' curve. It could probably do what you want
4. SPSS does a really good 3-d scatter plot and you can have the group
centroids super imposed on it.
5. A unix/Xwindows program called PlotMTV, available at plenty of ftp
sites, e.g.
http://www.debian.org/Packages/stable/math/plotmtv.html
this has the facility (crude but adequate) to rotate the picture by
clicking on buttons.

PS. Hi, Natalie......I'm not a native of Wrexham, I came here about 20 years
ago from near Blackpool and haven't yet been tempted to leave!
