SUPPORTING RESIDENCE ABROAD
Accredited staff development by distance learning
Student residence abroad was the major problem area in modern languages
identified by the HEFCE Quality Assessment process in 1995/96. The issue
has been addressed by three FDTL projects in 1997/2000. It will
inevitably be a focus for future QAA review.
Supporting Residence Abroad is a one-year, part-time course unit,
earning 20 credits within an ILT-accredited MA in Learning and Teaching
in Higher Education. Developed by the FDTL Residence Abroad Project, it
helps academic and administrative staff address the whole range of
issues surrounding student residence abroad. Offered for the first time
last year, it received enthusiastic feedback from the colleagues who
followed it, and led to demonstrable changes in institutional practice.
The course is delivered entirely online. Successful completion of the
course can ensure that institutional practice is well-informed, and can
demonstrate individual and institutional commitment to enhancing quality
in learning and teaching.
The new, extended course begins next month, and enrolments are limited
to twelve. Please contact Professor Jim Coleman ([log in to unmask])
for more details.
