Colleagues
Here in the University of Exeter Graduate School, we are
reviewing our admissions procedures with a view to
improving efficiency and providing earlier feedback to
applicants. As part of the process, I am intending to
visit (with a Senior Clerical Colleague) some similar
institutions so that we can get some ideas of best
practice. However, at this stage, I would be grateful if
you could answer the questions below. Please respond
direct to me ([log in to unmask]) and I will post an
anonymous summary.
1. Do you run a centralised PG admissions system? By
centralised I mean logging all applications, forwarding
them to Schools, and doing all formal correspondence to the
applicant. If your centralised system is any different
please explain.
2. How many applicants for PG (excluding PGCE) does your
institution process each year and how many convert to
actual students?
2. How many staff work on admissions?
3. Do you have a code of practice on admissions? (if so,
please refer me to a Web reference or send one in the
mail)
4. Does your office have target turnaround times for each
stage of an application? If so please specify the target
times and give an indication of whether these are regularly
met for the following processes:
(a) Logging application and sending on to Dept
(b) Admissions Tutors to return application with
decision
(c) Offer/rejection letter being sent
5. Do you accept applications which have been emailed/are
from the Net, and if so, do you use an online form or a
downloadable form only?
6. Does your institution issue offer letters conditional
on receipt of satisfactory outstanding documentation such
as transcripts and references?
7. Is there somebody I may contact if I wish to arrange a
visit?
