We have students in both categories. The above explanation is broadly
correct. "End-on" PGCE students are covered by extending their existing
Mandatory Award (assuming they have one) for another year, and the PGCE
students who have had gap years after graduating have to apply for Student
Support de novo, and get a new-style award with Fees paid by SLC (but, as
a special bonus, with no means testing for Fee Support).
