Has anyone any comments on the use of the two major
timetabling systems:
Facility CMIS and Syllabus Plus
We use S+ at Nottingham but I have also previously used it at Teesside
If you are using either or them:
Which one?
S+
Does it work efficiently?
Never really had any problems with it.
Is it in operation across the whole institution?
In Nottingham it is really used as a glorified room booking system, but at Teesside it had been used to have a centrally co-ordinated timetable (where schools entered data at satellite points) AND as a fully centralised system with the timetable produced by the registry.
How long does it take to produce a timetable for a whole
year?
How long is a piece of string ? The earlier you start the eaier it is but it really depends on how much data you want to give the system.
How good is the service from the company?
The service is excellent, the only problem is that software delivery dates are not always met (only for new version releases)
How long did it take to implement in the first place?
I would estimate 12 months - but it really depends on how you choose to use it.
What is the scale of use you are making of it? E.g. how
many students, courses, rooms etc?
Like I said, at Nottingham we are not really using it properly, but it will be used so in the next two years. Then about 25,000 students, 150 courses, 3,000 modules - I know it can handle this level of complexity.
Thanks for any contribution to help me to decide which
package would be best to implement here.
If you want to talk further then please get back in touch.
