Jonathan Bamford, Assistant Data Protection Registrar, announced at a
JISC seminar last Thursday that the HESA/Experian arrangement has
'come to the attention of' the Data Protection Registrar's Office.
Presumably this is because HESA are trading in non-anonymised data for
the first time, which might turn out to be contrary to the 'fair
processing' principles of the Data Protection Act.
I hope that we shall be informed of the outcome of their investigation
in due course.
