This one-day course provides thorough coverage of the problems and issues
relating to digitising moving images for online delivery.
Greg Newton-Ingham, University of East Anglia and Project Manager of the
joint BFI/BUFVC/JISC Imagination Universities Network Pilot, and Murray
Weston, Director of the BUFVC, will present the course. It is aimed at
university staff with a special interest in the use of moving pictures,
computer services staff, producers, archivists and academic service
providers.
Course content:
* Video sources - signals, standards, analogue and digital formats,
transfers
* Video compression and file formats
* Software and platforms for moving images - server technology,
backing up and archiving
* Cataloguing and metadata
* Copyright status, clearance and educational exceptions
* Forms of delivery
Participants will not be expected to have had prior experience in handling
moving images in an IT environment.
Cost per person, including lunch and refreshments: GBP 95.00 (GBP 80.85 +
VAT), discount rate for members and staff in BUFVC member institutions: GBP
80.00(GBP 68.08 + VAT).
