*News: The Digital Performance Archive launches its website and custom-built
searchable database*
The Digital Performance Archive (DPA) is pleased to announce the launch of
its new website and specially designed searchable database at
http://art.ntu.ac.uk/dpa
The DPA database traces the rapid developments taking place which combine
performance activity with new digital technologies - from live theatre and
dance productions that incorporate digital projections, to performances that
take place on the computer-screen via webcasts and interactive virtual
environments. The Archive also collates examples of how computer
technologies are being used to create, document or analyse performance -
from software applications for choreography and theatre design to specialist
websites, e-zines and CD-ROMs.
The website provides detailed information on the Archive's activities and
acquisitions, and includes a continually updated Events page, an evolving
Bibliography, and a 'New Acquisitions' page, which is updated every month.
This month's acquisitions include documentation of recent digital
performance works by Kunstwerk-Blend, Blast Theory, Mesh Performance
Partnerships, and the Hands-On Dance Project.
The custom-built database enables users to search the Archive in a variety
of ways: by practitioner(s); by technology; and by keywords. The database
and search facility is a beta (test) version and we would welcome any
comments about its layout, function and ease of use. Please contact us at:

We continue to encourage practitioners and academics working in the field of
digital performance to contact us, so that information about their work can
be included within the database, and where possible, audio-visual
documentation (e.g. videos, digital files) can be lodged within the Archive.
We would also welcome suggestions or information about practitioners,
performance events, websites, conferences, CD-ROMs etc. that you feel should
be included in the Archive.
DPA is a collaborative project led by Barry Smith, the Nottingham Trent
University, and Steve Dixon, the University of Salford. The new database and
website has been conceived and designed by DPA's Research Fellow, Rachael
Beach and designed by Stuart Moore The Archive also employs a Technical
Officer, Fraser Durie, and a Research Assistant, Marcel Thomson.
DPA is financially assisted by the Arts and Humanities Research Board (UK).
